Ordering and Payments – useful information

I'm ordering a digital image file. Should I select Gloss or Matt finish?

This option is only relevant for prints, not digital files. Simply leave the option on the default option of 'Gloss' and proceed with your order.

If I order a digital image file, how do I receive it?

Any digital image files you order will be sent to the email address you supply at the checkout. Therefore it is very important that you provide a valid email address. If your order contains more than four digital image files, these will be sent by post on a CD instead.

What is the maximum size reprint I can make from a digital image file?

You can make high quality reprints up to 12" x 18".

How many reprints can I make from a digital image file?

Purchasing a digital image file grants you a license to make unlimited reprints. Please be aware that copyright is still retained by photofin, which means you can only make reprints for personal use and can not distribute the file to others or modify the image in any way.

What format is the digital image file?

Files are supplied in JPEG full-quality format, with a resolution of 600 pixels per inch. They are colour corrected within colour space sRGB IEC61966-2.1. For best results when printing, find a print lab that uses this colour profile.

Will the image fit in a picture frame?

This depends on the picture frame, especially what is known as the 'aspect ratio' of the frame. All images supplied by photofin have an aspect ratio of 2:3 (each image has 2” in the shorter dimension for every 3” in the longer dimension). This is known as ‘Conventional’ sizing. You can print at the following sizes without any cropping (loss of picture edges):

4” x 6”, 5” x 7.5”, 6” x 9”, 8” x 12”, 12” x 18”

Not all of these sizes are favoured by picture frame manufacturers, it would seem. If you wish to print an image to use in a bought “readymade” picture frame please bear in mind that these are often made to ‘Traditional’ dimensions:

4” x 5”, 5” x 7”, 6” x 8”, 8” x 10”, 10” x 12”

Therefore some cropping of the longer dimension of the image will be necessary. Please bear this in mind if ordering an image for a specific frame.
